Qualcomm recently announced its three new 5G chipsets Snapdragon 865 5G, Snapdragon 765G 5G and Snapdragon 765 5G to power flagship and upper-midrange smartphones. The Snapdragon 865 will power the flagship devices while Snapdragon 765 and 765G will power the upper-midrange smartphones. Starting the comparison with the CPU of both Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 730 chipsets, here the new Snapdragon 765 integrates Kryo 475 64Bit octa-core CPU which has 1 ARM’s Cortex-A76 Prime(Gold) Core clocked at 2.30GHz, 1 Cortex-A76 Performance(Gold) Core clocked at 2.20GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 Efficiency(Silver) Cores that run with a maximum clock speed of up to 1.80GHz. The combination of all these cores provides a good CPU performance to Snapdragon 765 SoC.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 Features and Specifications, Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 Full SpecificationsOn the other hand, speaking of Snapdragon 730 chipset which has Kryo 470 64Bit octa-core CPU. This CPU integrates 2 ARM’s Cortex-A76 Gold Cores running with a maximum clock speed of up to 2.20GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 Silver Cores operating at up to 1.80GHz. Here Snapdragon 765 has Kryo 475 CPU which is an upgrade over Kryo 470 CPU of Snapdragon 730 chipset. Here 1 core has better clock speed in Snapdragon 765 while other all the cores have same frequancy in both chipset because of which Snapdragon 765 has a tiny better CPU performance than Snapdragon 730.

The Snapdragon 765 integrates an Adreno 620 GPU while Snapdragon 730 incorporates the Adreno 618 GPU clocked at 500MHz. The clock speed of the GPU of Snapdragon 765 is unknown but it has an upgraded GPU than Snapdragon 730 so it will deliver a fluid and smooth gaming experience to the device.

So in the case of GPU, again Snapdragon 765 has better GPU compared to Snapdragon 730.

Manufacturing Process

Comparing the manufacturing process of Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 730 chipsets where the newer Snapdragon 765 5G is manufactured using Samsung’s 7nm EUV process technology while the Snapdragon 730 is fabricated on Samsung’s 8nm LPP process technology. Here the newer Snapdragon 765 is more power-efficient chipset than Snapdragon 730.

So in terms of power-efficiency, the newer Snapdragon 765 is a better chipset than Snapdragon 730.

Camera

Moving to the camera & optics where the newer Snapdragon 765 got the Spectra 355 ISP which is a 14 bit dual ISP and capable to handle dual camera of up to 22MP at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL and single camera of up to 36MP at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL. Without MFNR & ZSL, it can support up to 192MP single camera.

On the other side, Snapdragon 730 integrates the Spectra 350 ISP which is also a a 14 bit dual ISP and capable to handle dual camera of up to 22MP at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL and single camera of up to 36MP at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL. Without MFNR & ZSL, it also can support up to 192MP single camera. Here both chipsets have support for same camera sensors but the newer Snapdragon 765 has an upgraded Spectra 355 ISP over Spectra 350 ISP of Snapdragon 730.

RAM & Storage

Here the Snapdragon 730 supports Dual-Channel 16 bit LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB clocked at 1866MHz while the newer Snapdragon 765 can support 16 bit up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM clocked at 2133MHz and it has 1MB system cache. So here also Snapdragon 765 is a better chipset than Snapdragon 730.
In the case of storage both chipsets have support for same storage which are UFS 2.1 and UFS 3.0.

Display

Here Snapdragon 730 has Full HD+ display support which has the resolution of 2520×1080 pixels while Snapdragon 765 supports up to QHD+ displays at 60 Hz.

AI

To perform all the AI tasks, Snapdragon 765 got Qualcomm Hexagon 696 Processor coupled with Hexagon Vector eXtensions, Hexagon Tensor Accelerator, and Qualcomm Sensing Hub while the older Snapdragon 730 has Qualcomm Hexagon 688 Processor coupled with Hexagon Vector eXtensions, Hexagon Tensor Accelerator, Hexagon Voice Assistant, and Qualcomm All-Ways Aware technology. Here the newer Snapdragon 765 has an upgraded DSP compared to Snapdragon 730 so it can handle AI tasks smoothly than Snapdragon 730.

So in terms of AI, Snapdragon 765 is a better SoC than Snapdragon 730.

Snapdragon 765 vs Snapdragon 730: Connetctivity Features

Connectivity-wise, Snapdragon 765 is ahead of Snapdragon 730 chipset because it is a 5G supportable chipset while Snapdragon 730 can support 4G. Speaking of Snapdragon 765, it integrates Snapdragon X52 Modem-RF System which captures a maximum speed of Up to 1.6 Gbps (5G), 210 Mbps (LTE) while Snapdragon 730 got the Snapdragon X15 LTE modem which can provide a maximum downloading speed of 800 Mbps using LTE Cat.15 and an uploading speed of up to 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13. Other all connectivity features of both chipsets are almost same like Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, FM Ratio, Charging, etc.

Snapdragon 765 vs Snapdragon 730: Conclusion

Coming to the conclusion, as you saw in the comparison, the Snapdragon 765 is an actual upgrade over Snapdragon 730 chipset. It has upgraded CPU, GPU, ISP, RAM, and connectivity features than Snapdragon 730. It is a 5G chipset while Snapdragon 730 is a 4G chipset so you should go ahead with Snapdragon 765 5G chipset instead of Snapdragon 730 without thinking more.
