Dimensity 720 vs Snapdragon 690: CPU, GPU & Manufacturing Process

CPU

Speaking of the Dimensity 720, it is a downgrade of the Dimensity 800 SoC. It has an octa-core CPU based on 64 bit architecture which includes 2 ARM Cortex-A76 Big Cores operating at up to 2GHz clock speed and 6 Cortex-A55 Little Cores running at up to 2GHz while Snapdragon 690 also has two cluster octa-core CPU based on 64 bit architecture which has Qualcomm Kryo 560 CPU clocked at up to 2GHz. This CPU integrates 2 ARM Cortex-A77 Gold Cores clocked at up to 2GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 Silver Cores that can be operated at up to 1.7GHz clock speed.

Here the clock speed is better of the Dimensity 720’s CPU while the Snapdragon 690 has better CPU Cores because of which it has better CPU Processing in comparison of the Dimensity 720 SoC. So in terms of CPU Processing, the Snapdragon 690 outperforms the Dimensity 720 chipset.

GPU

Coming to the GPU part where the MediaTek Dimensity 720 got an ARM Mali-G57 3 Cores GPU whereas the Snapdragon 690 integrates the Adreno 619L GPU. The Adreno 619L has a mid-range performance while the Mali-G57 is a flagship level GPU which can easily outperform the Adreno 619L present on the Snapdragon 690. Manufacturing Process

In the Dimensity series the company has upgraded its manufacturing process also while in the Helio series the company is using the 12nm manufacturing process for a long time. Speaking of the Dimensity 720, it is fabricated on the 7nm manufacturing process of TSMC while the Snapdragon 690 is built on the 8nm LPP process technology of TSMC.

Here the difference of 1nm makes the Dimensity 720 more power-efficient than Snapdragon 690. So in terms of power-efficiency, the Dimensity 720 is better than Snapdragon 690.

Dimensity 720 vs Snapdragon 690: Camera, Memory & Display

Camera

In the camera part, the Dimensity 720 supports up to 20MP + 16MP dual and single camera of up to 64MP.

While on the other side, speaking of Snapdragon 690, it features the Qualcomm Spectra 355L image signal processor – a 14 bit Dual ISP that can handle dual camera of up to 16MP + 16MP and single camera of up to 32MP at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL, up to 192MP without MFNR & ZSL.

Memory

In the case of memory support, Snapdragon 690 supports up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM operating at up to 2133MHz and UFS 2.1, eMMC 5.1 based storage.

While on the other side, MediaTek Dimensity 720 can handle up to 12GB LPDDR4x RAM clocked at up to 2133MHz and UFS 2.2 based storage.

Here the Dimensity 720 has better RAM and Storage support in comparison of Snapdragon 690.

Display

In the display section, Snapdragon 690 has support for Full HD+(1080 x 2520p) displays while the Dimensity 720 supports Full HD+(1080 x 2520p)90Hz displays.

AI Engine

All the MediaTek Processors have a great AI Processing. They easily outperform their rivals in terms of AI Processing. The same case with the Dimensity 720 SoC. It has an upgraded advanced APU for perform AI tasks.

While on the other hand, Snapdragon 690 has the Qualcomm Hexagon 692 DSP paired with Dual Qualcomm Hexagon Vector eXtensions, Hexagon Tensor Accelerator, Qualcomm Sensing Hub and Qualcomm Hexagon Scalar Accelerator. Having these features also, it is not capable to outperform the Dimensity 720 in terms of AI Processing.

Connectivity Features

Connectivity-wise, both are 5G ready mid-range chipsets. Speaking of Snapdragon 690, it features the Qualcomm Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System which is capable of providing a maximum downloading speed of 2.5Gbps and an uploading speed of up to 900Mbps while on 4G network, it can acheive a maximum downloading speed of up to 1.2Gbps and an uploading speed of up to 210Mbps.

For fast charging, it has support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology.

Other features like dual band Wifi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, GPS, FM Radio, etc. are also provided in this chipset.
