Dimensity 720 vs Snapdragon 720G: CPU, GPU & Manufacturing Process
First of all, talk about the CPU section where the Dimensity 720 got an octa-core CPU based on a 64-bit architecture which integrates 2 ARM Cortex-A76 Big Cores operating at up to 2GHz and 6 ARM Cortex-A55 Little Cores running at 2GHz whereas the Snapdragon 720G also has a 64-bit octa-core CPU which features 2 ARM Cortex-A76 Gold Cores clocked at up to 2.30GHz and 6 ARM Cortex-A55 Silver Cores that can operate at up to 1.80GHz.
Here the big cores of Snapdragon 720G have better clock speed because of which the Snapdragon 720G has better CPU processing than the Dimensity 720.
For gaming and other graphics tasks, the Dimensity 720 got an ARM Mali-G57 MC3 GPU whereas the Snapdragon 720G integrates the Adreno 619L GPU. Here the Dimensity 720 has a better GPU because of which it can offer a better gaming experience than the Snapdragon 720G.
Speaking of the Dimensity 720, it is fabricated on the 7nm manufacturing process of TSMC while the Snapdragon 720G is built on the 8nm manufacturing process. Here the Dimensity 720 is a more power-efficient chipset than Snapdragon 720G because of the difference of 1nm.
Dimensity 720 vs Snapdragon 720G: Camera, Memory & Display
Here the Dimensity 720 supports up to 20MP + 16MP dual-camera at 30fps and single-camera of up to 64MP at 30fps.
While on the other side, Snapdragon 720G has the Qualcomm Spectra 350L image signal processor which is a 14 bit Dual-ISP and supports up to 16MP + 16MP dual and up to 32MP single camera at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL. While without MFNR & ZSL, it can support up to 192MP single camera.
Speaking of Snapdragon 720G, it has support for up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM clocked at up to 2133MHz and UFS 2.1 or UFS 3.0 based storage.
On the other hand, the Dimensity 720 supports up to 12GB LPDDR4x RAM operating at up to 2133MHz and UFS 2.2 based storage. Here the Dimensity 720 is better than Snapdragon 720G.
Here the Dimensity 720 supports up to Full HD+ 90Hz displays while the Snapdragon 720G has support for up to Quad HD+(1440 x 3360 pixels) displays.
For handling AI tasks, Snapdragon 720G got the Qualcomm Hexagon 692 Processor coupled with Qualcomm Hexagon Vector eXtensions (HVX) while on the other side, the Dimensity 720 has dedicated APU 2.0 which handles AI tasks better than Hexagon 692 present on Snapdragon 720G.
Connectivity-wise, the Dimensity 720 is much better than Snapdragon 720G because where the Dimensity 720 is a 5G ready chipset whereas the Snapdragon 720G supports 4G only. The Dimensity 720 can provide a maximum downloading speed of 2.3Gbps while the Snapdragon 720G has the Qualcomm Snapdragon X15 LTE modem which can provide a maximum downloading speed of up to 800Mbps using LTE Cat.15 and an uploading speed of up to 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13. For fast charging, it has support for Quick Charge 4 technology. While other features like Wifi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, FM Radio, GPS, etc. are the same in both SoCs.
Coming to the conclusion, as you saw in the comparison, Dimensity 720 is a 5G chipset and has better GPU, connectivity features, better memory support and better AI Processing while Snapdragon 720G has slightly better CPU, better camera support and better display support. So having support for 5G, in the overall comparison of MediaTek Dimensity 720 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G, Dimensity 720 is a better chipset than Snapdragon 720G.
