Last month, in June 2020, Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 690 5G SoC, the latest and fastest chipset of Snapdragon 600 series. This is the first SoC to have Cortex-A77 Cores and built-in 5G support. This is a mid-range chipset and in the mid-range segment, it has a great performance. On the other side, Samsung also has its Exynos 880 chipset in the competition of this chipset.

The Exynos 880 is also a 5G ready chipset with Cortex-A77 Cores. Like Snapdragon 690, it also has a great mid-range performance. Now the question comes that which one is a better chipset between the Snapdragon 690 and Exynos 880 or what is the difference between both chipsets. Snapdragon 690 vs Exynos 880: CPU & GPU

CPU

Starting the comparison with the CPU section, here in both SoCs you get an octa-core CPU based on 64-bit memory architecture. Speaking of Snapdragon 690, it has 2 ARM Cortex-A77 Gold Cores operating at up to 2.00GHz and 6 ARM Cortex-A55 Silver Cores running at up to 1.70GHz clock speed while the Exynos 880 features 2 ARM Cortex-A77 Performance Cores clocked at up to 2.00GHz and 6 ARM Cortex-A55 Efficiency Cores that can be operated at up to 1.80GHz clock speed.

Here the Exynos 880 has a slightly higher speed of its little cores because of which it can outperform the Snapdragon 690. So in terms of CPU processing, the Exynos 880 is a better chipset in comparison to the Snapdragon 690.

GPU

Gaming-wise, the Exynos 880 is a better chipset than the Snapdragon 690 because it has an ARM Mali-G76 GPU whereas the Snapdragon 690 integrates the Adreno 619L GPU. The Mali-G76 is a flagship-level GPU while the Adreno 619L is a mid-range level GPU.

Manufacturing Process

In this section, both, Snapdragon 690 and Exynos 880 are the same. Both are fabricated on the 8nm LPP process technology, so both use the same power to boot-up.

Snapdragon 690 vs Exynos 880: Camera, Memory & Display

Camera

Moving to the camera and optics, here the Snapdragon 690 integrates the Qualcomm Spectra 355L image signal processor which is a 14 bit dual ISP and capable of handling dual camera of up to 16 + 16MP while in the case of a single camera, it can handle up to 32MP single camera with MFNR & ZSL. Without MFNR & ZSL, it can go up to 192MP.

On the other side, the Exynos 880 can support up to 20 + 20MP dual and single-camera of up to 64MP.

Memory

In the case of RAM, Snapdragon 690 supports up to 8GB dual-channel LPDDR4x RAM operating at up to 2133MHz and eMMC 5.1 or UFS 2.1 based storage.

On the other hand, the Exynos 880 supports up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM clocked at up to 1800MHz and eMMC 5.1 or UFS 2.1 based storage.

Display

In the display section, also both SoCs are the same. Both support Full HD Plus displays with a maximum display resolution of up to 1080 x 2520p.

Connectivity Features

Connectivity-wise, both have support for 5G technology. Speaking of Exynos 880, it has 5G NR Sub-6GHz Modem which can provide a downloading speed of up to 2.55Gbps and uploading speed of up to 1Gbps. While at 4G network, it can capture a maximum downloading speed of up to 1.28Gbps using LTE Cat.16 and an uploading speed of up to 200Mbps using LTE Cat.18.

On the other side, Snapdragon 690 integrates the Qualcomm Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System which can achieve a maximum downloading speed of up to 2.5Gbps and an uploading speed of up to 660Mbps. At 4G network, it can capture a maximum downloading speed of up to 1.2Gbps and an uploading speed of up to 210Mbps. While other features like Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio, etc. are the same in both chipsets. The Snapdragon 690 supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology for fast charging.

Conclusion

Now coming to the conclusion, as you saw in the comparison, the Snapdragon 690 has better Camera, Memory and Connectivity features than the Exynos 880 while Exynos 880 has better CPU and GPU than the Snapdragon 690. So in the overall comparison of Snapdragon 690 vs Exynos 880, the Exynos is the winner. You should go for  Exynos 880 for better CPU and GPU performance.
